Citroen Ds3 driver Sebastian Loeb extended his lead at the top of the World Rally Championship (WRC) drivers' standings with an impressive sixth consecutive win in Mexico.

After just three events of the season, the Frenchman has carved out a 16-point lead over team-mate Mikko Hirvonen.

Mexico has always been a happy hunting ground for the eight-time world champion and this year proved no different with Loeb taking 27 points across all stages.

This leaves the rally ace on 66 points, with Hirvonen, who collected 18 points in Mexico, in second place on 50 points.

Fiesta WRC driver Petter Solberg also acquired 18 points in Mexico, giving him an overall total of 47 points and allowing him to consolidate third place in the standings.

However, team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala failed to score any points for the second time this season.

This saw Adapta Fiesta driver Mads Ostberg move into fourth place with 28 points to Latvala's 26.

Commenting on the win, Loeb said: "I am very happy. I always win here! It is a great result for the team as well, with Mikko finishing second, a one-two for us."
