What We Think of the New DS 9
A large, luxury saloon, packed with advanced technology and a whole load of design and comfort considerations; meet the DS 9, the third model from the deluxe French manufacturer DS Automobiles.
The DS 9 moves away from the brand’s most typical SUV-style of vehicles, as they hope to make headway in the executive class. So, what does the vehicle have to offer?

Exterior
The DS 9 has a striking presence; with a body length of 4.93 metres, width of 1.90 metres and large 19-inch alloy wheels. The model also has a long wheelbase of 2.90 metres thanks to the Efficient Modular Platform (EMP2) which it has been built on. This is the first time DS has built a saloon on this platform, and it means rear passengers will benefit from increased space in the back.
The DS 9 has an expressive front face, featuring iconic sharp lines named DS WINGS. The front grille has a classic 3D diamond effect and the ‘Clous de Paris’ sabre on the bonnet is seen for the first time outside of the cockpit.
The vehicle has a fluid style, thanks to flowing lines from bonnet to boot. Along the side, body-coloured flush-fitting door handles add to the sleek appearance and a one-tone black roof brings an elegant touch to the car.
Interior
The inside of the DS 9 is something special. Both driver and passenger comfort have been extensively considered, and everyone will have their own space to enjoy. In the front and the rear, the seats are heated, massaging and ventilated. A 'Lounge' armrest in the rear also aids overall comfort; upholstered in Nappa leather, it provides storage, offers USB ports and allows passengers to operate the massage seat controls.
The elegant leather dashboard and seats, hand-stitched leather door panels and Alcantara that covers the roof lining and the sun visors, show that care has been taken in every last detail.
Tech-wise – there’s plenty to shout about. The DS 9 features a whole host of intelligent tech, including: DS Park Pilot, DS Active Scan Suspension, DS Night Vision, DS Driver Attention Monitoring and DS Drive Assist - rest assured you’re in safe hands.
Engines
The DS 9 line-up comes with two E-TENSE plug-in hybrid power units; a 225hp version and a 360hp version – available at a later date. The electric motor, used during periods of acceleration, and up to 80mph enables you to set off in near silence and also provides 34 miles of all-electric range.
Additionally, there is a 225hp PureTech petrol engine model available.
All models are equipped with a smooth and fast-changing eight-speed automatic gearbox.
It’s fair to say DS Automobiles have successfully showcased elegant design and sophistication, innovative technology and a global vision with this flagship saloon – it's DS’s best vehicle yet.
