Awards nomination double for Mazda

Mazda will be looking forward to this year's What Car? Car of the Year awards ceremony after seeing two of its models nominated for prizes.

The Mazda MX-5, which has had a successful both on the track and on the road, has been shortlisted in the Open Top category.

Mazda's flagship roadster will face stiff competition from Audi duo of the A3 Cabriolet and TT Roadster, the VW Golf Cabriolet and BMW's Z4 and 6 Series.

The Japanese firm will also have to overcome the Mercedes Benz E-Class and Bentley Continental GTC in order to win.

However, Mazda has doubled its chances of wining as the Mazda 6 has a decent chance of success in the Family Car category.

In this section the 6 will be pitched against the last year's winner, the Ford Mondeo, as well as the Peugeot 508, VW Passat, Skoda Superb and Mercedes Benz B Class.
