Citroen in top five green manufacturers

Citroen has been ranked among the top five green manufacturers of automobiles by Clean Green Cars.

The company noted that the brand's carbon emissions between January and June this year were on average 121.99 grams of CO2 per kilometre (g/km).

Compared with the other carmakers in the online magazine's top five, Citroen's output of the greenhouse gas was the lowest, with Toyota, Lexus, BMW and Volkswagen all racking up higher levels.

The European Union's target figure is 130 CO2 g/km, although each brand has a different individualised goal based on the weight of the cars it manufactures and Citroen isn't far off the 121 CO2 g/km aim it has been given.

Publisher of Clean Green Cars Jay Nagley warned carmakers that are lagging behind may find themselves paying off large fines if they do not lower their CO2 outputs.

Citroen recently announced that its green sub-100 CO2 g/km range now includes ten models, ranging from the all-electric C-Zero to the C4 family hatchback, as well as C3 and DS3 editions.
