Journalist falls for an Alfa Romeo Giulietta

One Guardian journalist has been getting hot under the collar for an Italian model, but it's not what you might think.

Martin Love wrote: "The model that's got me all worked up is the new Giulietta one of the more eye-catching small vehicles you'll see on the road today."

Love spent a week in the Giulietta and explained that the car made him feel like a different man.

"Despite knowing a car is just a car," explained Love, "I have been feeling sexy all this week and it's down to the basic fact that I have been mooching round town in an Alfa Romeo. I've worn sunglasses and popped that second button on my shirt; I've sat with my arm resting on the warm chrome."

The Giulietta is powered by a choice of engines, including the 1.4 TB 118bhp, the 1.6 JTDM-2 104bhp and the 2.0 JTDM-2 148bhp.

To celebrate the marque's 60th birthday this year Alfa has also released a performance version, the Quadrifoglio Verde, which uses the same 240bhp engine as its big brother, the Alfa 4C.

Love explained that one aspect of his Giulietta experience really stood out though: "The icing on the cake, however, is its launch-control system. The system then takes over the traction control, power delivery and transmission upshifts to maximise acceleration. It's exhilarating and effective."
