Mazda6 shows impressive diesel power at Indy

Mazda entered the only diesel-powered car in the Grand-am-Brickyard race in the GX class, held at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the 26th of July 2013. And it won, making it the first diesel-powered car to win on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The very special-looking Mazda6 used its SKYACTIV-D Clean Diesel engine to take the race win, as well as some very impressive-looking aerodynamics and race set up, as we can see from this image of the race car, with the road going Mazda6 in the background.

Driver, Sylvain Tremblay, took the lead in the three hour race and keep the laps consistent, and the car out of trouble, to score this historic victory, and in a market that’s very important to the Mazda brand; North America.

This groundbreaking win was the fifth in a row for Mazda and has now taken them ahead of the famously racy Porsche brand, after 8 of 12 races in the GX manufacturers championship race series. More impressive still is that the winning Mazda6 was powered a 2.2 litre SKYACTIV turbo diesel engine with 51 per cent of its components entirely stock, and based on a mass production engine.
