Shortlist for World Car of the Year 2013 announced

Mazda is leading the way when it comes to the shortlist for the World Car of the Year 2013 award, with the Japanese car maker making up two of the ten final entries.

An international jury made up of 66 respected motoring journalists were given the difficult task of picking ten new vehicles which stood out in the new car market.

Following plenty of thought and deliberation, the panel announced their selection of nominees for the prestigious World Car of the Year honour – an award which has become an annual highlight of the New York Auto Show.

While the majority of car manufacturers had to make do with just one vehicle in the shortlist – if any at all – Mazda was celebrating after both the Mazda 6 and CX-5 made the entry sheet.

The Mazda 6 car caught the attention of critics in the motoring scene, after being modelled as a mainstream vehicle packed to the brim with premium qualities.

Furthermore, the fact that this particular vehicle comes complete with Mazda's award-winning SKYACTIV technology and 'KODO - Soul of Motion' design detail is sure to intrigue those in the market for a new car.

Meanwhile, the Mazda CX-5 has been hailed as a crossover vehicle with a twist, due to the fact that the motor also presents drivers with a variety of economical engines and an degree of performance which assures an enjoyable drive every time.

As if all of this was not enough, the quality of the CX-5 has already been highlighted when the vehicle was presented with the WhatCar? Car of the Year 2013 Best SUV under £25,000 gong recently.

Upon presenting the Mazda with this illustrious prize, What Car? stated: "The CX-5's low running costs and the strength of its diesel engine are hard to resist. It's an unbeatable buy at (much) less than £25,000."

Mazda will witness if either its CX-5 or Mazda 6 achieves even more high praise when the top three cars of the World Car of the Year 2013 award is revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

Later that same month, on March 28th at the New York Auto Show, the overall winner of the prize will be announced.
