New light commercial vehicles from Ford will be equipped with engines that exceed the European Stage V emissions requirements.

According to the manufacturer, both its FiestaVan Stage V and Transit Connect Stage V will meet the guidelines, meaning motorists could benefit from both reduced emissions and improved fuel economy.

Built with a 1.4 or 1.6-litre engine, the FiestaVan Stage V offers 70PS or 95PS of power, while the 2011 version also comes with a diesel particulate filter and trip computer.

Meanwhile, the Transit Connect Stage V features a new 1.8-litre Ford Duratorq TDCi engine with a vaporiser that collects over 95 per cent of engine soot emissions.

On top of this, it also includes a variable nozzle turbo to boost low end torque and enhance driveability.

Ford of Britain marketing director Mark Simpson said: "Despite a tough business climate, Ford FiestaVan sales are up 40 per cent this year.

"This work towards maintaining class-leading low cost of ownership is how we try to make the Ford range the one that British businesses choose."
