New Ford Mondeo to use 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine

The next-generation of the Ford Mondeo for Europe is set to be fitted with the award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine.

In the past, the engine has been fitted to such popular models from the American car manufacturer as the Focus, B-MAX, Fiesta and C-MAX.

Now though, the Mondeo looks set to have the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine installed too, which will be the largest-ever Ford vehicle to be fitted with the small displacement motor.

Once fitted, the engine will allow the new Ford Mondeo model to achieve 125PS and 170Nm of torque, though the latter can be boosted to 200Nm when put in overboost mode.

Barb Samardzich, vice president of product development at Ford of Europe, pointed out that the choice has been able to be made due to the technological capabilities on offer today.

"This is as true of engines as it is of computers and smartphones, and by equipping the all-new Mondeo in Europe with our acclaimed 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine we are delivering cutting-edge technology that delivers a very real and tangible customer benefit," she noted.
