New SEAT Leon Receives a Five Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating

The new SEAT Leon has been awarded a five star safety rating in the latest Euro NCAP tests.

The Euro NCAP safety test features rigorous assessments to determine how well vehicles perform in certain crash scenarios (frontal, rear and side tests) regarding the safety of the passengers. Areas of the vehicle that are assessed include Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable Road User Protection and Safety Assist features.

The overall scores for each area for the Leon were:

Adult Occupant Protection: 92%

Child Occupant Protection: 88%

Vulnerable Road Users: 71%

Safety Assist: 80%

These results shine a light on SEAT’s commitment to design safe, reliable cars and the SEAT Leon is proof of this, with all powertrain options (including the plug-in hybrid variant) being tested and awarded with top marks.

Dr Werner Tietz, SEAT’s Vice-President for Research and Development, commented: “We’re extremely proud that the new SEAT Leon achieved Euro NCAP’s top rating across all its different variants – five-door and Estate body types, combustion engine and PHEV powertrains. This is a reflection of the emphasis we place on safety, and our openness to integrating the latest technologies, whether active or passive, to achieve this goal.”

The new Leon performed well in all crash scenarios for both adult and child occupants. Critical body parts were well protected and the inclusion of the seven airbags within the cabin enhanced safety even more.

It is fully equipped with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Side and Exit Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Traffic Jam Assist, Light Assist and Pre-Crash Assist, which all work together to increase the safety of both the vehicle and passengers.

The Leon also features a driver monitoring system, which helps to monitor certain factors of the driver including fatigue and alertness. If impaired driving is detected, the driver is warned to enable them to take the necessary actions they need to.
