Petter Solberg set for Ford WRC testing

Petter Solberg will potentially be behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta in next year's World Rally Championship (WRC) season.

That is after the driver announced that he will test a Fiesta RS WRC for the first time tomorrow (December 15th).

Should testing prove successful, it is highly likely that Solberg will join the Blue Oval as its second driver for the 2012 season.

Solberg alluded to such a move at the end of the Rally GB in November but talks were taken to a further stage with Ford ream principal Malcolm Wilson last week.

It will mark something of a turn around for the Norwegian who left the Cumbrian-based team mid season in 2000 - defecting instead to Subaru.

However, it appears that the driver, known in the circuit as 'Hollywood', will be welcomed back with open arms.

"Petter is still a very fast driver and a driver capable of becoming a world champion again," a Ford source told Eurosport.

"The test makes a lot of sense for us all, it'll be good to see him back in one of our cars again and interesting to see what he can do. Beyond that, nothing much more has been discussed."
