SEAT have announced five new projects within the Components team with production scheduled to start at the El Prat factory in 2025.

Spanish car manufacturer SEAT recently announced new plans to expand production within SEAT Components to support their Small Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs).

This starts with a redesign of the production plant in El Prat de Llobregat, making it more dedicated to electric vehicle production before introducing five new key projects for producing components.

These components are differential, pivot bearing, battery E-Bax, KMM (a battery cooling module) and the aluminium for the motor.

The brand hopes that introducing these key projects to the Components team will help to strengthen the focus on electric vehicles and support the transition to a greener, cleaner motoring.

This will then hopefully allow the brand to achieve its vision of making Spain a European hub for the development of electric motoring, and to set a leading example for others in the automotive industry.

The plans will also be vital in helping to provide employment stability for workers during the uncertainty of the electric vehicle transition.

It’s reported that millions of euros will be invested in the factory to kickstart plans and help the brand achieve its goals.

Markus Haus, Vice-President for Production and Logistics at SEAT S.A, said:

“The aware of new components reaffirms the commitment of SEAT S.A and the Volkswagen Group to employment stability and the search for alternatives that ensure the future of SEAT Components, as part of the transformation process in which all the Group’s component plants are immersed.

The collaboration of the workers and their union representatives is key to the success of this process.”

At present, around 900 people are working in production at SEAT Components. Here, production involves two manual gearboxes, the MQ200 and MQ81, used in traditional combustion engine vehicles (ICE).

With the production expansion, this will become reduced to allow for a broader focus on electric cars and a more efficient, versatile, and highly skilled workforce. All with the aim of helping to boost the development of electric vehicles with new and improved processes.

One of the company’s three main production centres and founded in 1979, SEAT Components works alongside Martorell and Barcelona as one of the Volkswagen Group’s nine manufacturing facilities dedicated to transmission.

It has been recognised previously for its efficiency and high-quality production processes. So much so that in 2016, it received the Industrial Excellence Award for its management strategy, setting it as a benchmark for productivity and high standards.
