The top-selling Vauxhall Corsa supermini has been honoured for being the go-to vehicle for driving instructors.

Readers of adiNEWS, the magazine for driving instructors, picked the 1.3-litre diesel Active variety of the much-loved car as the publication's Training Car of the Year 2012.

It was a runaway victory for the Vauxhall Corsa, which gathered more than a third of all the votes cast in this category.

Paul Caddick, managing editor at adiNEWS, acknowledged: "The overwhelming signal of success was just how easy the Corsa is for students to drive – individual points noted included the smooth gears and clutch, the light steering and the ease of parking."

He went on to explain that the fact that the new Corsa can deliver 53.3mpg on an urban cycle and offers all-round visibility from the driver's seat also helps the vehicle stand out from the crowd.

Peter Hope, the marketing director at Corsa, noted: "The Corsa is one of Vauxhall's best-selling models and one of the reasons owners warm to it so much is because it's practical, comfortable and fun to drive − all qualities which we know are important to both instructors and driving students alike."
