Vauxhall delivers

Inside the new Astra GTC is an engine that is capable of delivering the most power found in any of Vauxhall's non-VXR models.

The manufacturer has been singing the praises of its new 1.6-litre direct injection petrol engine, that delivers 200PS and 300Nm of torque.

All this equates to a top speed of 143mph and a 0-60mph time of just 7.3 seconds. According to Vauxhall, the performance of its latest model "throws down the gauntlet" to other UK coupe sector rivals.

When compared to the previous 1.6-litre turbo edition, the car's power and torque is up to 30 per cent higher. Astonishingly, despite this extra punch, the car is also more efficient, with consumption of 51mpg combined and emissions of 154g/km marking a 13 per cent improvement on it predecessor.

It also includes an Intellilink system, combining satellite navigation, voice control, Bluetooth and phone connectivity and a seven-inch touchscreen display.

The cars fitted with the latest engine innovation are now available to order, but deliveries will not commence until the spring.
