Vauxhall gives Astra fans a glimpse of new cabrio

The 2012 Vauxhall Astra cabriolet is likely to have a fabric roof instead of a folding metal lid, if the latest sneak peek is anything to go by.

Vauxhall has released a tantalising shot, which shows the new model partly shrouded in darkness, but clearly with the roof down.

The new version is expected to be released next year, with prices in excess of £20,000 on the road, What Car? Magazine reports.

It is believed that the fabric roof will save weight and add to the overall aesthetic, while the latest insulation techniques mean that the new hood will keep drivers warmer in winter.

Many comparisons can be made with the recently launched Astra GTC, as both cars are likely to have the same range of engine set ups.

However, the cabrio will be a strict four-seater, and the body is expected to be slightly longer, to offer more rear legroom and luggage space.
