Volvo to offer customer cloud connectivity

Volvo has revealed that it will soon offer customers a new way to have a fully connected experience while behind the wheel of their cars.

By utilising cloud-based services, motorists will be able to find and pay for car parking, discover new restaurants in the local area, and wirelessly stream the music they love in their vehicle.

All installed as part of the Sensus Connect innovation, it is hoped the system will make life easier and more enjoyable for people on the UK's roads.

According to David Holecek, connectivity brand manager for Volvo, the company listened to the needs of customers when creating the Sensus system, allowing them to be completely in tune with ways to make the technology as useful and applicable as possible.

The car will be able to connect to tens of thousands of radio stations, while a new navigation system will allow drivers to input information through a mobile device and discover information about their surroundings.

"It’s all about giving everyone an enjoyable, easy to use and intuitive experience," Mr Holecek said. "There is no point in filling a car with technology if it comes off as overwhelming, so our main focus is always to give our customers the best experience available and make it easy to digest."

The manufacturer has also teamed up with Pandora, the internet radio station, to increase the ability to access music on the move.

"The driver can now seamlessly switch between their favorite music on high-end speakers and having their text messages read out loud without taking their hands off the wheel. And as from now, your car will not only tell you when it’s time to visit the garage but also will suggest an appointment for you at your Volvo dealership," Mr Holecek added.

Drivers will be able to use the car as a Wi-Fi hotspot, where passengers can connect to the internet through their favoured devices.
