2012 to see two new Fiat 500s launched

The iconic Fiat 500 supermini is set to receive a further makeover in the new year, it has been reported.

Already available in convertible and limited edition Gucci models, the re-imagined car is set to boast two new versions for 2012.

Fans of the sporty city car will be able to get behind the wheel of a new Abarth-tuned model, while eco-conscious drivers will be treated to an electric version.

The Abarth version is set to feature a 1.4-liter turbo-charged engine deliver 160 horses, while stiffer suspension and wider tyres will add to the driving experience.

A tweaked exterior and additional interior design touches will also set the car apart from others in the range.

Fiat is hoping that the Abarth will rival the reworked Mini Cooper S.

Meanwhile, the 500EV will be powered by a lithium ion battery pack, which will appeal to drivers looking to reduce their carbon emission in style.
