Ford Fiesta ST set to take hot hatch sector by storm

The UK hot hatch market, which is currently dominated by the MINI Copper and the Renaultsport Clio, is set to be shaken up by Ford in 2012.

That is according to Auto Express, which recently spotted the Blue Oval's forthcoming Ford Fiesta ST in testing.

While motorists will have to wait until the middle of next year to get behind the wheel of the suoped up Fiesta, the magazine claims that the model will boast a turbocharged 1.6-litre Eco Boost engine.

As such, hot hatch lovers can look forward to 178bhp and 240Nm of torque.

Rumours of straight line speed abound, with a 0-60mph time of under seven seconds and a top speed of 140mph being speculated.

And as if that was not enough, the Fiesta, the UK's top selling car, was recently voted the best used car in its section.

In fact, the Fiesta, Mondeo and S-MAX saw the Blue Oval complete a hat trick of prizes at the What Car? Used Car of the Year Awards.
