Ford is leading the way with regard to car sales in the UK, according to a new report.

The latest top ten list compiled by What Car? has the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus at the top of the pile for 2011.

Based on car sales for the last 12 months, the study has the Fiesta placed at number one with 96,112 units shifted, with the Focus just behind on 81,832.

"It's a great car to drive, the engines are clean and it's cheap to run," the magazine said of the Fiesta.

The publication described the Focus as a "superbly-rounded family hatchback that's well specified, competitively priced and great to drive".

Elsewhere on the list, Vauxhall scored a respectable hat-trick, with the Corsa, Astra and Insignia placing third, fifth and sixth respectively.
