American vehicle manufacturer Ford has announced that by 2020 it will have invested $4.5billion in electrified vehicle solutions.

The promise will see the brand add 13 new electric vehicles to its range within four years, and meaning that more than 40 per cent of its vehicles globally will be electrified by the decade's end.

The range will include new Focus Electric with all-new DC fast-charge capability, which delivers 80 per cent charge in an estimated 30 minutes and an100-mile range.

The new Focus Electric will bring features including SmartGauge with EcoGuide LCD Instrument Cluster, Brake Coach and agile steering and handling engineered to customers in Europe and North America.

Alongside expanding its range, Ford is also expanding its EV research and development programme in Europe and Asia, creating a "hub and spoke" system that will allow the global team to further accelerate battery technology.
