Ford Transit celebrates birthday

A new version of the Ford Transit, the 2010 Sapphire, has been created as part of the celebrations for the vehicle's 45th birthday, which is reached next month.

Since its launch, the Transit has become a staple of the light commercial vehicle world and more than six million models have been built around the world.

The van remains ever-popular in Britain, clocking up sales of some 2.1 million since launch, with no less than 23,000 sold so far this year.

Ford notes that since it first hit the market, the Transit has been developed to offer a wide range of different styles.

A total of 78 derivatives were available in 1965, the manufacturer notes, but this has increased over time to stand at more than 600 now, meaning that there is likely to be a model ideally suited for very particular needs.

The new Sapphire model comes priced at £14,995 and features a six-speed transmission, as well as cruise control and automatic headlights and wipers.ADNFCR-3205-ID-19914178-ADNFCR
