Ford Transit named International Van of the Year 2014

At the COMTRANS commercial vehicle exhibition in Moscow, the all-new Ford Transit Connect has picked up the award for International Van of the Year.

The accolade has seen Ford become the first single manufacturer to claim the title in two consecutive years.

Beating of competition from the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and the Renault Kangoo, the Transit Connect picked up 130 points from a possible 163, whereas it competitors took 123 and 25 respectively.

The Transit has continually proved its worth to the commercial market. In 2001 and 2007, the Transit claimed the very same award, whereas the Connect took home the spoils in 2003, while the Custom earned the 2013 accolade.

Barb Samardzich, vice president of Product Development, Ford of Europe, said: “The all-new Transit Connect has moved the game on for compact vans – and we are really proud to win this significant award again.”

“The new Transit Connect is just as tough and hard-working as all our commercial vehicle range, and comes with smart new looks and much lower fuel bills.”

In addition to providing typical storage space, load carrying ability and durability, the new Connect comes with ECOnetic, meaning that CO2 emissions are minimised to 105g/km, and 70.6mpg is delivered.
