The 2013 GT Academy competition is go!

Virtual racers can become real-world Nissan racers, with the 2013 GT Academy competition that's just gone live with an exclusive downloadable demo of the new Gran Turismo 6 game for PlayStation 3.

As our lead picture shows, two former GT Academy Champions got to live out their driving dreams with Nissan at the recent Le Mans 24-hour race, where they scored a very credible forth place in probably the most gruelling circuit race in the world.

GT Academy 2013 is expected to be the biggest yet with more countries than ever getting involved, using the first-look demo of the Gran Turismo 6 racing game as an irresistible hook for the virtual racing fans. The GT Academy, run by Nissan and Sony Computer Entertainment has attracted more than two million entrants since it was launched in 2008, and has created several successful real-deal racers who now compete for Nissan in top-level motorsport.

The initial online competition – featuring some lovely bespoke Nissan models – will bring together the fastest GT6 gamers, who will then be invited to the National Final events where they will be challenged on GT6, and in real cars on the track. After that, the cream of the virtual crop will attend the Race Camp at Silverstone, with the winner set to join established Nismo racers.
