Two Renault classics included in Goodwood Revival competition

An iconic Renault 4CV car and a timeless Renault Caravelle are two of the four classic vehicles set to battle it out for honours in a vintage car restoration project.

The cars will do battle with a BMW 1800Ti manufactured in 1964 and a Volkswagen Beetle 1300 that rolled off the production line back in 1970 at this weekend's Goodwood Revival event.

Both the 4CV and Caravelle have been restored to their best by expert teams commissioned by Groupe CAT.

The 4CV, for example, was brought back to peak performance by a team of engineers based at Teesport, Middlesbrough, while the classic roadster Caravelle was reassembled by manufacturers in Southampton.

Stuart Warren, business unit director of Groupe CAT, commented: "The competition has brought an additional sense of community to each team, providing excellent opportunities for our apprentices and other technicians to further develop and enhance skills, methods and techniques needed in every-day operations."

A judging panel at the Goodwood Revival festival will now analyse the two cars, as well as the Beetle 1300 and BMQ 1800Ti, to determine the winner of the event's vintage car restoration competition.

Mr Warren added: "The team spirit which has developed for all of the centres taking part has been truly invaluable and judging an outright winner from such quality entries will be very a difficult task indeed."

This year's Goodwood Revival festival takes place near Chichester, in West Sussex, from today (September 14th) until Sunday and gives car lovers a chance to reflect on the classic vehicles of the 1940s, 50s and 60s.

Widely seen in the vehicle industry as the biggest historic motor racing party of the year, guests will be able to be entertained as they watch a host of celebrity, sports car and single-seater races, all etched in a celebration of the beloved vehicles of yesteryear.
