New Ford Fiestas 'most registered vehicles last year'

Figures from the government have shown Ford's Fiesta to have been the most common newly registered vehicle of 2009.

With a new Ford Fiesta having just been launched, the manufacturer could find it retains its position this year after last year's numbers showed the vehicle to have been the most registered.

Some114,000 new Ford Fiestas were registered during 2009, marking a 24 per cent rise on the figures from 2008.

The Fiesta was also the most licensed model until last year, when it was surpassed by sibling the Ford Focus.

Ford was also highlighted as the most popular vehicle manufacturer in the statistics, followed by Vauxhall, Volkswagen, Peugeot and Renault.

Together, the five manufacturers accounted for around of Great Britain's licensed cars at the end of last year.

Ford recently announced it has added the Zetec S-inspired S1600 to its Fiesta range.
